MATERIAL WEIGHT AND DURABILITY

If you like the feel of a weightier phone, the iPhone 13 Pro is probably your preference. Both the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro feature the same size (146.7 x 71.5 x 7.65mm), but the iPhone 13 Pro comes out on top at 204g, as opposed to the standard iPhone 13’s 174g. Why? This is mostly due to the materials and build of the phones. The iPhone 13 Pro is made from stainless steel, while theiPhone 13 is a more lightweight aluminum. It’s worth noting that the iPhone 13 Pro’s stainless steel offers greater durability; however, we still recommend protecting it with one of ouriPhone cases.

THE COLOR OPTIONS

The overall flat-edged, metal frame design is quite similar between the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models, but if you are keen on a particular color, that’s a different story. The standard iPhone 13 model offers a range of color options, such as Pink, Blue, Midnight, Starlight and Product Red. However, due to its stainless steel chassis, the iPhone 13 Pro was designed to show off its material and includes shinier metallic options like Graphite, Gold, Silver and Sierra Blue. This decision purely comes down to personal tastes, so there’s really no wrong or right answer.

THE SCREEN AND PROMOTION DISPLAY

With a strong Ceramic Shield screen, each iPhone 13 model is designed to withstand all the knocks, scratches and drops that come with carrying a phone. Plus, they have an IP68 rating, which offers them some water-resistant properties. However, if you are looking for more of a defining difference in the iPhone 13 vs. iPhone 13 Pro, you have to look under the hood, so to speak.

The biggest difference in the screen lies in the display behind it. Overall, their screens are the same, each with a Super Retina XDR OLED display with 2532 x 1170 resolution. However, comparing Apples to Apples, the iPhone 13 Pro is brighter, which makes watching HDR videos easier on the eyes. More importantly, the iPhone 13 Pro offers the ProMotion display with an amazing adaptive refresh rate (120 Hz, double that of the standard iPhone 13), which means there’s less jarring video or screen scrolling.

While this may not be a big deal to some, this technological advancement is intended for a specific audience: those who watch HDR videos like sports or are into online gaming. ProMotion makes for a smoother experience overall, matching the frame rate to your scrolling or watching habits.

REAR CAMERAS AND THE LIDAR SCANNER

The camera is one big difference between the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro. The standard iPhone 13 offers a dual 12MP camera system (Ultra Wide and Wide lenses), whereas the iPhone 13 Pro has a third lens for Telephoto capabilities like optical zoom (10X farther than the iPhone 13). Also, each iPhone 13 Pro lens has a large aperture to enhance the image quality.

The LiDAR scanner is also a fantastic upgrade. This scanner essentially detects the depth of field and the environment a photo or video is being taken, and then adjusts the portrait mode to take better Night Mode shots and even Augmented Reality shots. Furthermore, the iPhone 13 Pro offers professional ProRaw and 4K ProRes video, which is a pretty stellar incentive for content creators and videographers who love to work minimally with their phone’s camera. However, if this is beyond your expertise, the iPhone 13 is still a fine fit.

BATTERY LIFE

With these ProMotion Display and camera advancements, you might wonder: how does the battery hold up? If you are constantly streaming video, the iPhone 13 Pro really holds its own. It can offer an extra three hours of battery life. So if you are someone who loves to watch videos all day or spends lots of time on your phone, the iPhone 13 Pro is a clear winner.

OVERALL PERFORMANCE, A15 PROCESSORS AND STORAGE

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro offer the same overall performance, which is true for most of their series models. The only difference is that they each got upgraded to a 5nm A15 Bionic processor. These A15 Bionic processors offer a six-core CPU, while the iPhone 13 Pro has an extra GPU core, which adds a little extra speed. Most users will not be able to tell a difference between the two right off the bat, but in simple terms, it will give your iPhone 13 Pro that new fast feel for longer than its standard model. The other big difference is that the iPhone 13 Pro is offered in a 1 TB storage option.

SO, IPHONE 13 VS. IPHONE 13 PRO: WHICH WILL IT BE?

If camera features and technology are important to you, put out the extra bucks for the iPhone 13 Pro, hands down. The iPhone 13 Pro also brings its smoother 120 Hz display, too. But overall, they both offer tons of new features compared to older iPhone models, which makes them each fantastic phone options.

Either way, you’re going to need a case to protect your new device.
