How To Carry Your Phone Without Pockets or a Purse While Traveling

If you looked inside your closet right now, the odds are pretty good that you’d find at least one garment with no pockets. It could be a dress, yoga pants, shorts, sweatpants or other pieces of clothing.

Without pockets, it can be difficult to travel while carrying around a cell phone, including those in an iPhone 14 Pro Max case. It is even more difficult if you don’t usually carry a purse, especially if you don’t have one that matches your outfit or simply don’t want to carry one. Here are five tips that can help you carry your phone without pockets or a purse while you’re traveling.

TIP 1: HAVE YOUR TRAVEL PARTNER CARRY YOUR PHONE

The first idea is the simplest: if you’re traveling with someone, they will probably carry it for you. Unfortunately, this can also be inconvenient and requires a certain level of trust between you and the other person. If you’re traveling solo, you’ll need to find another way.

TIP 2: TUCK THE PHONE INTO AN UNDERGARMENT

There are specially-made sports bras with pockets in them that can be used to hold phones, ID cards and other valuables. For people who don’t wear bras, a pair of longer socks is another option.

This can work in a pinch but might not be the best idea if you’re (understandably) self-conscious about reaching into your bra at an airport or another busy location.

TIP 3: PUT THE PHONE UP YOUR SLEEVE OR AROUND YOUR ANKLE

If you’re wearing a top with long sleeves that are tight enough, you might be able to slide it up your sleeve and hold it in place, leaving you with two free hands. Alternatively, you could tie the phone to your ankle.

Unfortunately, this won’t work if your shirt fits too loosely around your wrists to hold the phone in place or if you’re wearing shorts or other apparel that leaves your ankles visible. You may also risk losing your phone if it falls out while you’re distracted and don’t notice.

TIP 4: WEAR A CROSSBODY HOLDER

The items in our amazing phone crossbody line include lanyard-like chains strong enough to hold even the largest cell phones.

We also have belt bags that work like fanny packs but are stylish enough that you won’t look like a stereotypical tourist. They’re an excellent choice if you’d like your phone to be within reach but don’t plan on using it constantly.

TIP 5: WEAR A WRISTLET

Another great choice is a wristlet, which is like a bracelet that will hold your phone connected to your hand. These are especially great if you plan on using your phone a lot and need to always have it handy.

Our phone wristlets leave the charging port open, allowing you to get extra juice into your phone or connect wired headphones with ease. They also pair nicely with screen protectors, which are especially important when traveling in busy places. Even though you treat your phone with love and care, the family running past you to get to their flight across the airport might not, so use a wristlet to secure your phone.

A WEARABLE CARRIER IS PROBABLY YOUR BEST BET

These are a few ways to carry your phone without pockets or a purse while traveling, but the easiest is probably a wearable holder like a crossbody or wristlet. If you’re planning on using your phone a lot, the wristlet might be the better choice.

If you don’t need it close at hand, the crossbody might work better for you. If you buy both, you’ll have the perfect tool for any travel situation.
